Milford Square Music Studio's emphasis on improvisation and composition goes back to its inception in 1979 when it settled in the Quakertown area. Improvisation is taught in our Enrichment Group lessons through instrument ensembles, drum circles, improvised movement in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, multiple keyboard activities and on the grand pianos. Instruction includes ostinato melodic and rhythm patterns, chord progressions, jazz, modes and scales, and is expressed through moods, technical skills, dynamics, imagination and storytelling. Every student, as young as age 4 though our high school seniors, are instructed in this fantastic creative outlet. The students enjoy the process of learning and also the finished product performed at our annual recital. Our students have the opportunity to enter the Pennsylvania Music Teacher's Association state competition and also the Music Teacher’s National Association composition competition each year. We have won multiple awards: 1st, second, third place and honorable mention in the elementary, junior and senior categories in the state event, and 1st place and honorable mention in the first and second tiers of the national competition.
